Not all cone sleeves are built from the same material, and the difference shows up the moment a customer actually grips one. A thin paper sleeve flexes and softens under hand pressure and moisture, especially as a cone starts to melt it does the minimum job of separating hand from cone sleeves, but it doesn’t hold structure. A cardboard sleeve is a different category of product: genuinely rigid stock that keeps its shape through grip, melt, and handling, rather than gradually giving way to them.
That structural difference matters most for brands serving larger cones, heavier fillings, or longer hold times a cone held through a slow walk from counter to car benefits from a sleeve that’s still doing its job ten minutes in, not just at the point of handoff. Cardboard also takes print work differently than thin paper stock: colors sit more solidly on the surface, and foil or spot UV finishes read with more definition on a rigid base than they do on something flexible.
Material sourcing is configurable too. Recycled cardboard stock is available for brands building sustainability into their packaging story, while virgin cardboard stock offers a slightly brighter, more consistent base for color-critical print work. Either way, the board is treated for grease and moisture resistance as standard, so structural rigidity doesn’t come at the cost of the sleeve softening from the inside out. Our design team handles print layout at no charge, and with zero die or plate charges, upgrading from a thinner paper sleeve to a rigid cardboard one doesn’t carry a tooling cost on top of the material difference.
